Pamela Holl Hunt

"Even before I went to Paris to study in 1964 I was in love with French art. For me the epitome of painting is Cezanne, Derain, Gaugin, Matisse, and Picasso. Sure there are other loves, but these are the enduring ones. They represent my spiritual search for something beyond the physical."

Pam was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England in 1945.

A classically trained artist, she received most of her training in Paris, London and Brussels in the 60's and 70's as the famed Academie Julian (Paris) and Studio 17 with master printmaker Stanley William Hayter also in Paris.

Working in oil, using mostly a palette knife, her earlier work was a series of sensitive, illuminating abstracts.

In 2000 she commenced on a spiritual and creative search which emanated in an extensive series of bold colour-filled tree paintings that evoke images of both Emily Carr and Stanley Cosgrove.

More recently Pamela has returned to her abstract roots and is producing some of the most powerful and exciting work of her career. She signs her work 'Holl Hunt' or 'HH'.

"My paintings are mostly derived from feelings of space, landscape, sea, water, rock, weather...the natural world. I am attracted to certain tones and colours against each other. These evoke a mood which inspires the beginning of a painting, but every can change once the painting is underway."
